Button, Jenson (McLaren) Speeding behind the Saefty Car 5 pts Speeding behind the Safety Car.

Both Button and Hamilton were investigated for speeding behind the Safety Car during the SC’s first outing to the track. Each driver is expected to drive to a certain pace and not to driver too fast (to prevent drivers driving a racing speed when not directly behind the SC). Button, being the only driver of the pair still on the track was found to have sped and was handed a drive through penalty. Investigation started on lap 11 and Button took the penalty on lap 13.

The result was that Button and Hamilton collided with each other putting Hamilton into the pit wall. Button’s car was not damaged but Hamilton’s car was too damaged to continue in the race. Hamilton limped around the track stopping his car in the outside of turn 5 (despite going past many an oppertunity to park up safely). As a result, the Safety Car was brought out to clear up the mess.

Button was quoted on the radio as saying to his team “What is he doing!?!?!”. Quite.
