Blundell, Mark
 Blundell’s Pirelli tyres were not giving him great grip in the race. He had suffered with the handling balance all the way through the weekend. On lap sixty-three he lost control of his Brabham and he spun the car. Unfortunately he was unable to dip the clutch fast enough of prevent the engine from stalling. He retired from the race there and then.

McLaren spent a huge amount of time testing at Silverstone with all five of its drivers. They arrived in Hungary with four cars, one having the new semi-automatic gearbox installed. It’s use had been left open ended but when Senna span the car in Friday Free practice and damaged the under tray and the new gearbox would take no further part in the Grand Prix weekend after the car was converted back to a normal gear box for the balance of the meeting.

After qualifying Alesi was very unhappy with the progress that Ferrari were making with the car and he entered into an intense discussion with team manager Claudio Lombardi over the matter. Lombardi was tired of Alesi’s complaining and he had banned Alesi talking to the press on such matters.

At the start, in the run down to the first corner Pirro and Modena made contact, causing the surrounding cars to scatter. Neither the Dallara or the Lotus were seriously damaged although Pirro pitted on lap fifteen after the bent suspension had done little to improve his tyre wear rate. Fading oil pressure caused his eventual demise.

Starting from the dusty side of the track Patrese made a superb start and was challenging Senna into the first corner. He pulled virtually level with Senna but Senna chopped him off severely. The William’s tyres smoking in protest. Patrese was furious with the unrepentant Senna and words were exchanged.

The hot weather and tortuous circuit were not helping Brundle out at all. He was in seventh when he pitted for a fresh set of Pirelli’s that dropped him to twelfth. All boded well until he began to loose all feeling in his right leg and fearing an accident he pulled into retire at the end of lap fifty nine.
