Misc
McLaren Dunce 1 pts There was a huge furore in the McLaren garage on the Thursday afternoon. It was Ayrton Senna’s thirty-first birthday and the celebration had got out of hand as the chocolate birthday cake had been transformed into ammunition for a food fight. When Ron Dennis appeared normal service resumed very quickly indeed. Senna was not happy either as he had put aside a number of privilege passes for members of his Brazilian fan club and in the middle of the frivolity they had been stolen.

Modena, Stefano (Tyrrell) Spin off and recover 1 pts Like Patrese had done in the session Modena ran over the lethal Interlagos razor kerbs. The kerb ripped the bottom off his Tyrrell and tore the sump out of the car. This was ain inauspicious debut for the Honda engine in the Tyrrell.

Capelli, Ivan (Leyton House) Dunce 1 pts Capelli was seventh in Friday qualifying due to putting a good lap in at the end of the session on the drying track. He slid down to fifteenth place in Saturday’s session. There had been a misunderstanding over what type of rear anti roll bar should be fitted to his car. The fitted anti roll bar afforded a suspension set-up that was far too soft and by the time the cause had been discovered Capelli had used both his sets of qualifying tyres. He was furious, to say the least.

Morbidelli, Gianni (Minardi) Breach of technical regulations<br />
1 pts Morbidelli qualified his Minardi in twenty-first place after he had his best lap time deleted due to a driving indiscretion. In trying to take the fastest line onto the start finish straight he had cross the yellow line that designated the entrance to the pit lane.

Caffi, Alex (Footwork) Spin out of session / race 4 pts In a desperate attempt to qualify his Arrows Caffi took the route of trying a minimum down force set-up. This produced a number of frustrating spins for Capelli in the outdated chassis with the heavy Porsche engine. The final spin resulted in some reparable damage to the car.

Gugelmin, Mauricio (Leyton House) Dunce 1 pts In the race warm-up a fire extinguisher had gone off in the Layton House’s cockpit. Gugelmin sustained serious burns to his tight. These would cause him to struggle in the race. He was unable to concentrate on the race fully and he decided to call it a day after he had completed ten laps.

Pirro, Emanuele (Dallara) Spin off and recover 1 pts At the start of the race Pirro was pushed on to the grass at the field funnelled down into the first corner. He damaged his front wing as he bounced across the grass and he had to pit to have the nose box on his Dallara replaced. The stop lost him nearly a full lap.

Tarquini, Gabriele (AGS) Spin out of session / race 4 pts Tarquini’s race was a short affair. He lost control of hi AGS on the very first lap. He was caught in the gravel trap and he had to retire from the race on the spot.

Nakajima, Satoru (Tyrrell) Spin out of session / race 4 pts Tyrrell were using the new Honda power plant for the first time. Nakajima was unable to make the best from the increased power and he spun out of the race and into retirement on unlucky lap thirteen.

de Cesaris, Andrea (Jordan) Spin out of session / race 4 pts de Cesaris was having a decent run in the race up until lap twenty-one. His engine cut out and the loss of drive to the rear wheels pitched the Jordan into a spin and retirement.

Martini, Pierluigi (Minardi) Spin out of session / race 4 pts Martini was running well up until lap forty-eight when he spun his M194.

Comas, Erik (Ligier) Spin out of session / race 4 pts Comas lost control of his Ligier and spun out of the race on lap fifty-one.

Mansell, Nigel (Williams) Spin off and recover 1 pts By lap fifty-nine rain had been falling on the track enough to make the surface quite treacherous. Mansell was seemingly caught out and spun his FW14. Mansell claimed that the spin was a result of a gear selection problem. It was a commonly held opinion at the time that this was not entirely true. If it was the gear box’s fault Mansell exacted his revenge by trashing it, as well as the rest of the transmission and his tyres as he was too aggressive as he “power spin” his Williams around to face the correct direction. He had to retire a few yards down the track as his Williams pathetically coasted to a halt. Gear box problem my eye!
