Passing over the rain water gutter at speed in an F1 car is never a good idea. The resulting impact send Petrov high in to the sky! On impact the Renault’s steering column became detached from the car leaving Petrov with no steering. |

14 pts | After scoring the 4th fastest time, Petrov retired from Q2. Petrov’s car, after putting in all it’s effort to push the Russian up to 4th, lost power and slowly stopped. Seemingly taken by surprise in the 30 seconds it took for the car to come to a stop, Petrov managed not to park it on the grass causing the session to be red flagged. The red flag caused much panic in the pits as cars on a hot lap were force to come in to the pits again. With only 2 minutes and 20 seconds on the clock the session was a scramble for fast laps. One of the biggest losers was Heidfeld, Petrov’s teammate. |

2 pts | Collided with Schumacher on the opening laps. After a tough set of opening laps the field settled down to the race pace. Petrov, seeing his chance, moved in on Schumacher. Schumacher defended which resulted in Petrov losing part of his front wing on the back of the German. |

Alonso also did not slow down and ran off the road on the outside line. The collision with Schumacher meant that the safety car was deployed to allow clear up of the mess and Schumacher was an immediate retirement. After the race the stewards handed Petrov a 5 place grid penalty for the Indian Grand Prix. |
