| Barrichello, Rubens (Jordan) |
|
5 pts | At the first start Barrichello squeezed Oliver Panis’s Ligier toward the right hand wall. Panis had to break hard to avoid a collision. David Coulthard was caught out in dramatic fashion; he had to swerve violently to the left to avoid the Ligier. In doing so, Coulthard collected the Jordan of Martin Brundle, launching the Jordan into the air, over the top of the McLaren and Herbert’s Sauber. The Jordan landed back on the track and barrel rolled into the gravel trap. In the accident the Jordan was literally broken into two. The race was red flagged as the marshals tried to clear Brundle’s car. Herbert’s car was also wrecked and he was unable to take the re-start as Heinz-Harald Frentzen, his team-mate was driving the spare. |

|
1 pts | After a long battle with Michael Schumacher Ruben lost control of his Jordan under braking at Subida do Loago and spun off into the gravel and retirement on lap 60. This error could have been partly attributed to the young Brazilian being over-inspired by his home crowd. However, it transpired that his brakes had started to go off as the track dried. This was because the mechanics had not removed the tape from the cooling ducts on the brake disks and they had begun to overheat. |

| Race | |||||
| Barrichello, Rubens (Jordan) |
|
1 pts | Battling for fourth place with Blundell’s McLaren in the closing stages Barrichello rammed the McLaren on the penultimate lap. Blundell continued and brought the car around to the finish on three wheels to finish fifth. Barrichello’s Jordan had lost its right front wheel, it’s wing and was out on the spot. Barrichello blamed Blundell, voicing the opinion that he though he had been brake tested on a number of occasions. Blundell saw it more simplistically. “In the end I defended my line and Rubens hit the back of my car.” |

1 pts | Barrichello like Papis submitted a drug test after qualifying that he knew he would fail. He had a cold and was taking a flue remedy that contained the banned substance pheniphedrine. “I will fail the test, I took a mendicant for this cold this morning, which contained a banned substance, I told the FIA doctor before the race and now I am praying I do not have a problem because of it.” Rubens told reporters. |

| Race | |||||
| Barrichello, Rubens (Jordan) |
|
1 pts | After Barrichello had made the change from wets to slicks he lost control of his car under braking for the Casio chicane on lap sixteen. Barrichello made contact with his team-mate Irvine as a result. Irvine was able to continue but Barrichello was firmly beached in the gravel and had to retire. “My car was more set up for slicks that wets” Barichello explained “so I was faster than Eddie when the track dried. I could see Coulthard pulling away ahead and I thought I could overtake Eddie easily at the chicane but I put a wheel on the wet and spun. Thankfully he kept going because I knew it would have been very big trouble for me if he didn’t!” |

| Barrichello, Rubens (Jordan) |
|
1 pts | Barrichello had a massive accident in the Friday’s qualifying session. On his first flying lap he lost control of his Jordan in the 140mph Varante Basssa, the difficult left-hand corner before the pit lane entrance. The car vaulted over the track side kerb and slammed sideways on into the tyre barrier before somersaulting back on to the grass. The session was immediately red flagged and Barrichello taken to the circuit medical centre. Miraculously he only sustained cuts to the roof of his mouth and a bruised nose. He was given X-rays and a brain scan before he was transferred to Bolgn’s Maggiore Hospital as a precautionary measure. The following day Rubens was at the circuit although he had his bruised right arm bandaged. “I feel good now. I can remember a bit of the crash but I do not know exactly what caused it. It could have been oil or it could have been my problem. I was certainly going pretty fast!” |

| 1994 – Canadian Grand Prix | |||||
| Race | |||||
| Barrichello, Rubens (Jordan) |
|
4 pts | Barrichello was suffering with gearbox problems that had led to him going into the pits on lap fifty-two. At the hairpin of the last lap he spun partly due to these problems and lost what would have eventually been sixth place to Lehto. |

| 1994 – British Grand Prix | |||||
| Race | |||||
| Barrichello, Rubens (Jordan) |
|
1 pts | Barrichello and Hakkinen had a coming together on the final corner of the last lap. Barrichello did not appreciate that it was the final lap and he limped into the pits with suspension damage to retire. The Marshall pushed Hakkinen out of the gravel and he limped home to keep his fourth place, just! Both were given one race suspended bans for hitting each other on the last corner of the last lap, very silly. |
||
| 1994 – Hungarian Grand Prix | |||||
| Race | |||||
| Barrichello, Rubens (Jordan) |
|
1 pts | Going into the first turn of the race Katayama attempted to run around the outside of Irvine’s Jordan, simultaneously Barrichello made a dive down the inside of his team mate, Irvine. The cars were three abreast into the first corner and a collision was inevitable. All three cars could have finished in the points but as they collected each other and slid into the gravel trap their race was run, there and then. |

| Race | |||||
| Barrichello, Rubens (Jordan) |

1 pts | Just as Philippe Adam had done a few laps earlier Barrichello got off line in the off camber Pouhon corner. He lost control of his Jordan, skated through the gravel trap before hitting the tyre barriers. He was out of the race on the spot. |

| Barrichello, Rubens (Jordan) |
|
1 pts | Barrichello had a sizable accident in Saturday’s qualifying session that resulted in the session being red flagged with sixteen minuets left to run. The right hand side of his Jordan sustained serious damage. “I just aquaplaned off…. As I went off I prayed that I would not disappear… After this crash I opened my eyes and I found myself still here and I was very pleased about that.” |

| 1993 – Hungarian Grand Prix | |||||
| Race | |||||
| Barrichello, Rubens (Jordan) |
|
1 pts | Barrichello had a massive off on the first lap after a collision with Suzuki’s footwork. The contact that the Jordan made with the tyre barriers ripped the right front wheel off but this did not prevent Rubens having a half hearted attempt at continuing in his three wheeled car. |

| 1993 – Italian Grand Prix | |||||
| Race | |||||
| Barrichello, Rubens (Jordan) |
|
1 pts | As well as the Senna / Hill incident in the run down to the Varante goody year there was a five car pile up toward the back of the field that resulted in the elimination of J.J. Lehto’s Sauber, the Jordans of Apicella and Barrichello and the Footworks of Suzuki and Warwick. Hirotoshi Honda the boss of Mugen was at the first corner and was not pleased to see both his cars eliminated on the first lap of the race. The accident was probably triggered by Apicella losing control of his Jordan in his first race and avoiding action from one of the other drivers triggering the rest of the action. |

| Barrichello, Rubens (Jordan) |
|
1 pts | Trying to keep pace with his new team mate and Suzuka specialist, Eddie Irvine, Barrichello was pushing very hard in Saturday qualifying. He got off line in “The Snake” and his tyres picked up a lot of dirt and he lost grip. The Jordan spun wildly into the barriers ending the Brazilian’s session there and then. |

| 1999 – Australian Grand Prix | |||||
| Race | |||||
| Barrichello, Rubens (Stewart) |
|
1 pts | Barrichello was running behind Schumacher while the safety car was out. The rules stipulated that you could not overtake when the safety car pulled in until you had passed the start / finish line. As the race restarted Hakkinen’s McLaren fell ill at the head of the field. This caused a concertina in the field that caused Schumacher to break and the timing beams adjudged that Barrichello overtook Schumacher before they had crossed the line. On lap thirty-one he was called in for a ten-second stop go penalty due to the transgression. |

|
1 pts | On lap seventy-one Barrichello crashed out of the race. Earlier in the race his teammate, Johnny Herbert was eliminated when his Stewart’s right-rear suspension failed. Herbert was able to keep the car away from the barriers. The same problem caused Barrichello to retire but he was unable to keep off the barriers. |

5 pts | During the session Alesi felt that Barrichello had blocked him on a fast lap when Rubens was on an out lap. Barrichello did not see it the same way and the two drivers had a frank exchange after the session. |

|
5 pts | Exiting the pitlane though the red light in Saturday Free Practice. Barrichello was caught on the Saturday exiting the pit-lane through the red light. Like Sato he was to loose his fastest time from the qualifying session as punishment. “As far as the penalty for this morning is concerned, all I can say is that it was impossible for me to see the red light from where I was. I didn’t make a final run as I knew it would change nothing in terms of grid position,” he explained after qualifying. “I think we had come up with a well set-up car, however I had a gear selection problem, although all in all, I don’t think it would have changed much. It certainly won’t be easy starting from the fourth row, but it will be a long hard race so I am confident all the same.” |

3 pts | Gesticulating to Irvine after he was blocked by the Jaguar driver and verbally slating Irvine after the race. On lap twenty-seven Barrichello was balked by Irvine while trying to lap the Ulsterman. The Jaguar was able to hold the Ferrari up for a number of corners and when Barrichello did find a way past he gesticulated to Irvine. “I just made a sign that told him to go to hell! Considering that he is the one that talks so much in the briefings and everything – bla, bla, bla – it’s odd that he goes and holds me up for three-quarters of a lap. When he let Ralf by, in a nice way, he could have let me by at the same place but he came back in and stayed there for another five or six corners. It was just silly, that’s all. But he’s getting old,” seethed Barrichello as he slated Irvine after the race. |

|
1 pts | 8 points for hitting Raikkonen and taking him out of the race, 7 points for the subsequent stop go-penalty and 5 points for the drive through penalty incurred as he broke the pit-lane speed limit taking his stop-go. On lap forty, as the leaders started to slice their way through traffic, Barrichello, who had been shadowing McLaren’s Kimi Raikkonen, ran into the back of the Finn at the harbour chicane as he attempted an overtaking manoeuvre. Barrichello damaged the front of his car and the rear of the McLaren. Both drivers pitted at the end of the lap. Raikkonen rejoined some laps later after his rear wing has been repaired but he retired from the race after completing one exploratory lap. Barrichello rejoined after pitting for a new nose cone but was is given a ten-second, stop-go, penalty for the incident. He took the penalty on lap forty-two but in his eagerness to make a speedy getaway he broke the pit-lane speed limit and subsequently had to make a return visit in the form of a drive-through penalty. “At one point, I spotted an opportunity to pass Raikkonen,” Barrichello explained. “I went from the outside to the inside and as he braked, he closed the door on me. There was nothing I could do and I ran into him. I have to thank the team for building a really strong car, as after the accident, I was able to continue and the car was still very quick, even if it had a bit of oversteer. It’s a race to forget, because as I said earlier, I had a winning car.” |

| Qualifying | |||||

|
5 pts | The big stink Barrichello created after he encountered traffic in qualifying, specifically, David Coulthard. Barrichello’s last run in qualifying was ruined when the McLaren of David Coulthard balked the Ferrari driver. Barrichello’s teammate, Michael Schumacher had had similar troubles with Montoya so had half the field but no one kicked up as big a fuss as Barrichello. Traffic is a fact of life at Monaco and half the skill of getting a fast lap is timing or creating a gap in the traffic. The furore that Barrichello stirred up was sufficient for David Coulthard to be forced to publicly apologise for the incident by McLaren’s Boss, Ron Dennis. “It was not a perfect day,” Rubens said. “The car wasn’t bad and had the potential to get me onto the front row. Unfortunately, traffic determined where I ended up on the grid. On my second run, I was very quick, but I was blocked by Coulthard. Then again, in the final minutes I ran into traffic. In Monaco, it’s impossible to do a good time if you don’t have a clear track.” |

1 pts | Chicane jumping on lap sixty. On lap sixty Rubens Barrichello and David Coulthard were battling for second place. Coming into the final chicane Barrichello tried to get ahead. Coulthard stayed on the outside and held off the Brazilian’s challenge but missed the chicane. Barrichello also missed the chicane. As neither gained an advantage, neither was punished. |

4 pts | Spin on his second out lap in qualifying. Barrichello crashed during the morning’s free practice session, knocking off the right front wheel, but his F2002 was repaired for qualifying which he punctuated by a harmless spin, that would have ruined his second run but the spin was on his out lap. “I went off the track in the morning, losing precious time in terms of preparing the car for qualifying. This afternoon, I therefore tried to make up for lost time. Obviously the car could not be great in these circumstances, but all in all, I am happy with the result,” Rubens remarked. |

His F2002 was repaired for qualifying which he punctuated by a harmless spin. |

|
4 pts | Spin on lap thirty-two. On lap thirty-two Barrichello had a 360 degree spin that cost him around ten seconds on race leader, Michael Schumacher. The Brazilian later remarked that his tyres had fallen away after he had been pushing too hard. “Everything worked fine and the Bridgestone tyres were fantastic. I spun, when I touched a kerb after pushing a bit too hard on the intermediates which were quite worn at the rear,” explained Barrichello. “I enjoyed my fight with Juan Pablo. It was a fair one. I lost some speed going into Club corner, but I did not expect him to move on me there. I tried to make a move on him at the exit to the corner, which did not work, but after a few more laps I managed to overtake him again.” |

5 pts | Barrichello’s pro-Brazilian football shirt, worn to antagonize his German teammate. One man who was having a joke at his teammate’s expense at the 2002 British Grand Prix was Rubens Barrichello. He was seen sporting a Brazilian football shirt displaying the score from the previous weeks World cup Final that had seen his fellow countrymen defeat the German football team, two goals to nil. Schumacher retorted, telling that he had had a similar shirt on stand-by in hope that the German team would prove to be triumphant. It seems all is far in love, football and F1. Perhaps Schumacher should have had a shirt with his number of Grand prix wins versus that of Barrichello’s, that would have knocked the wind from the Brazilian’s sails. “I had prepared a similar shirt, but unfortunately I never got the chance to wear it,” said Michael with a smile. “Germany played very well in the final and we can be proud. But it was Brazil’s day and they definitely deserved the win.” |

Schumacher darted to the right to block the fast starting Renault but this allowed Barrichello to pull along side into the first turn. The Brazilian was in a feisty move and he attempted to pass his teammate’s F2003 GA around the outside of the first turn. Just when it looked as if the manoeuvre would stick, Schumacher held his line into the second turn, closing the door on the Brazilian, the two cars touched and Barrichello slid over the gavel trap. |
