33 pts | In the run down to the first corner, Grosjean squeezed Hamilton, made contact and started a massive chain reaction. Grosjean initially touches wheels with Hamilton which pushes Hamilton partly onto the grass. Now losing control, Hamilton careered in the back of Grosjean. The two, now interlocked became a momentum fueled train heading into the, now very near first corner. Te next collision was the pair, Hamilton and Grosjean, with Perez. Perez acted as the ramp to launch Grosjean up and into the front of the Ferrari of Alonso, passing very close to the unprotected cockpit of Alonso. Hamilton, now disconnected from Grosjean careered into the back of Alonso and into the side of Kobayashi, launching himself semi up in the air towards the outside of the track. Kobayashi was the only driver directly involved that was able to carry on from the incident. The safety car was brought out directly whilst the situation could be resolved. Grosjean was found, subsequently, to be at fault for the incident, his second such incident of the season. Neither Grosjean or his team denied his fault in the incident. The stewards found the it was an “extremely serious breach of the regulations which had the potential to cause injury to others” and that it had “eliminated leading championship contenders from the Race” (not that we feel this should make a difference). As such the stewards fined Grosjean 50,000 euros and banned him from the next event. |
