Martini, Pierluigi (Minardi) Crash due to driver error level 1 1 pts On lap ten, the second lap after the safety car had pulled in Martini triggered an incident that would see three cars eliminated. Ligier and F1 debutant, Franck Lagorce was battling round the track in seventeenth place when Martini tapped the back of his Ligier pitching the Gaelic car into a spin and retirement. Martini lost control too and spun off. David Brabham was able to sail through the melee unscathed but Martini’s team mate, Alboreto was caught out and span off trying to avoid the accident. The end result was three cars out. Minardi was not pleased with its driver!

Martini, Pierluigi (Minardi) Crash due to technical failure level 1 1 pts In the rain soaked Friday Free Practice session Formula One returnee Pierluigi Martini spun his Minardi off into the barrier, damaging the suspension on the right hand side of the car. A partially sticking throttle was to blame.

 
Martini, Pierluigi (Minardi) Dunce 1 pts Martini brought his Minardi into the pits to retire at the end of lap thirty-one. The out of shape Italian was just not in good enough physical condition for his Formula One return and he became so uncomfortable in the car that he had to retire.

(Lap sixty out of seventy-seven.) His points scoring finish duly evaporated. It did not help matters that the track surface offered progressively less grip in the latter stages of the race.

Martini, Pierluigi (Dallara) Caused a multiple pile-up level 1 5 pts At the start of the race Martini, in his Dallara punted Alboreto’s Footwork form behind, this pitched the Italian into a spin. Grouillard’s Tyrrell collected the wayward Footwork. Alboreto then spun into the wall due to the rear suspension damage that he had sustained, debris being strewn over the entire track. All three were out of the race. Herbert who was caught up in the chaos needed a trip to the pits for a new front nose cone and a replacement steering arm.

Martini, Pierluigi (Minardi) Unsportsman like driving 3 pts Martini spent most of the race as the back marker from hell. He badly baulked Prost in the first half of the race not wanting to be lapped. Then as he was coming to be lapped by Pirro who was in turn just about to be lapped by second place runner Modena. Martini’s blocking tactics earned him the black flag and the first stop / go penalty under the new rules. Martini’s blocking effectively cost Modena the chance of racing Senna for the win.

Martini entered the tricky sixth fifth gear corner only to loose traction totally on Berger’s oil. The Minardi span immediately and slammed into the tyre barriers. Martini was out.

The damage sustained to the Minardi’s tub was so severe that Martini was confined to the spare car for the balance of the weekend. This was a shame as the Italians progress on the Friday had been good despite a quick spin. To compound his problem further the spare car shed a wheel due to an insufficiently tightened wheel nut!

He was fortunate to escape with a cracked bone in his ankle as the TUB of his Minardi had bee ripped in half on impact. He took no further part in the race weekend.

The Italian car was well and truly stuck in the gravel and Martini was out. In fact, the car was so well bedded that a course car was drafted to assist in its removal.

Alesi dived up the inside of the Minardi in the tight left-hand corner before the pit lane entrance. Martini did not see Alesi and he turned in on his normal line. The two cars collided and slithered into the gravel, both out of the race.
