Alliot had a torrid baptism into the 1990 Formula One Season. In Friday Free Practice he crashed his race car heavily. He was uninjured and he went back to the pits to take the spare car, which he duly slammed, into the wall coming on to the start finish straight. The JS33B bounced in to the middle of the track and the red flags came out to halt the session. In the mad scramble one of the Ligier mechanics rushed out on to the track. He effectively crossed the track and as a result would cause Alliot to be disqualified from the balance of the race. Ironically he was an ex-Leyton house mechanic and his indiscretion promoted Ivan Capelli on to the last grid position.

In Friday qualifying Alliot spun his race car out on the track whilst setting it up using C compound race tyres. He had to abandon his race car out of the track and dash back to the pits to take the spare car. “That meant I had to take the untried spare, throw on my qualifiers and hope for the best” shrugged the Frenchman.

As the lights went green to start the race the clutch on Modena’s Brabham failed and he was barely able to coax his BT49 into motion. David Brabham has to swerve violently to avoid his team-mate and in doing do he collected Pirro’s Dallara. The front right suspension of the Brabham ripped the back left wheel of the Dallara pitching it into the wall. Pirro was out but David Brabham continued none too worse for wear. Alliot was pinned in and had to come to a standstill. He was shocked when a marshal lent into the cockpit to unfasten his seatbelts. In the ensuing struggle the engine ignition was turned off much to Alliot anger. Alliot accepted a push start as compensation and for that he was black-flagged from the race after twelve laps for receiving outside assistance.

de Cesaris was dawdling around the track just as Alliot was coming past him on a fast lap in qualifying. de Cesaris turned in on Alliot’s Ligier. The two cars made contact, the Ligier was launched into the air, coming down to earth with a impact so mighty it was to completely write off the band new Ligier chassis. Alliot was unhurt but he was blinded by rage. He marched off to confront de Cesaris in the Scuderia Italia pit garage. Alliot was battling for twelfth place with Gugelmin and Martini as Mansell came up to lap him. Mansell made a dash up the inside of Alliot on the entry to a fast left hander on the back of the circuit. The left front wheel of the Ferrari clouted the right rear wheel of the Ligier pitching it into a spin that would put the Ligier into the barrier. The impact wrote the Ligier chassis off, the second of the race weekend for Alliot. Mansell was lucky to escape the incident without damaging his F641.

Alliot had a big accident in his Ligier in Friday qualifying. The ferocity of the impact when the car hit the barriers was enough to catapult the destroyed Ligier back into the middle of the track. He actually spun and crashed in every session on Friday; the excuse was a new differential.
