Exiting turn 2, Kobayashi was slow to get traction and the hapless Heidfeld was caught napping and he collided with Kobayashi. The resulting damage to his nose meant that on the following straight, it detached and jammed under his Renault sending him spinning from the race. The safety car was deployed to clean up the mess. |

9 pts | Crashed whilst trying to overtake Buemi into the final chicane. Heidfeld, who had just received a drive through penalty for an unrelated incident, attempted to overtake Buemi. In doing so, Heidfeld chose the outside line but Buemi was not looking in his mirrors. The two collided pushing the Renault onto the grass, the nose of the Renault underneath it and Heidfeld, with a small jump, into the gravel. As he slid through the gravel, Heidfeld even managed to express his anger at Buemi. |
