1 pts | Hill’s first race of the season only lasted a few hundred meters. Coming into turn two Jarno Trulli attempted an over ambitious move on Damon Hill. The young Italian’s Prost pushed Hill off in to the gravel where the Jordan became beached and retirement from the race was a forgone conclusion. “All I could see was that I was turning in for the second corner, someone stuck his nose in. There was no way he was going to get through and no way we were going to get round. His front wheel in front of my rear wheel tripped me up and spun me round: very frustrating” Hill reeled. |

1 pts | At the restart after the safety car Fisichella was fighting his fellow countryman Trulli for position when the two cars made contact. Trulli escaped undamaged but Fisichella had to pit to have a new nose-box fitted to his Benetton. After Fisichella rejoined he ran well for the remainder of the race. |

Trulli and Alesi were out on the spot. Barrichello limped back to the pits to have the SF3’s bodywork patched up before he resumed one lap down. “I was braking hard to avoid Coulthard,” remarked Rubens, “when I was hit by Trulli. It was a pretty big impact; it even took a piece out of my helmet.” |

1 pts | Crashing while fending off Michael Schumacher, (two points for style, three for speed) and the subsequent safety car, (4 points.) Michael Schumacher was pressuring Trulli until Trulli lost control of his Renault on oil on the track Trulli’s car lost all grip rear-end grip exiting turn one, the car spearing into the wall. Trulli was eliminated from the race and due to the dangerous position in which the Renault came to a rest the safety car was brought out for a second time. “After a strong showing in qualifying and the race, the team are obviously frustrated not to have scored points,” said Mike Gascoyne, Technical Director. “Jarno was running strongly in second, holding off Schumacher, before he spun. We will have to analyse exactly what happened, but we think there may have been oil on the circuit. Overall, we can take a lot from the weekend, and I’m sure we will have a strong season.” |

1 pts | Crash in Friday Practice 2: three points for style and two for speed. Trulli was the only driver to really make a costly error in practice for the 2002 San Marino grand Prix. A loss of control in the final chicane resulted in his Renault spinning into the retaining wall, its front wing smashed; Trulli’s session brought to a premature conclusion. It was perhaps interesting to note that in the drying conditions it was the Michelin shod cars that were more difficulties than the Bridgestone runners. “Overall, I’m happy that we did a good job today. I was pleased with the balance and the performance of the car this morning, which meant we could complete good race preparation work,” Trulli said. “The track was a little strange this afternoon, but the car was still handling well until I made a mistake on one of my timed laps and spun, losing the front wing. Even so, it’s been a positive day, and I’m confident that we can be competitive if it rains for the race.” |

1 pts | Hitting the wall in qualifying, damaging his car?s right-rear suspension; 2 points for style and two for speed. Trulli’s frustrations caused by loosing the second Friday practice session due to technical gremlins were showing in qualifying. Trulli’s efforts were blunted after he swiped his right rear wheel against a wall and broke the rear suspension. He wrestled the damaged R202 back to the pits where he took over the spare car, which he believed felt pretty good. It must have been as he qualified in eleventh, two places in front of his teammate. “I must admit that I am a little disappointed with our result in qualifying. I made a mistake at a crucial time, when I was really pushing hard on the second flying lap,” Jarno explained. “The car was behaving very well and the balance was good, so it’s a shame that I couldn’t make the most of it in these circumstances. The team did a fantastic job to get the T-car ready for me so quickly, as it was set up for Jenson. This car felt strong as well, but the rain at the end of the session spoiled the final run.” |

4 pts | Sliding off the track on lap five, loosing four places. On lap five Jarno Trulli made a mistake that wasted his qualifying position, (seventh) and compromised his entire race. Coming into turn one he made a mistake and slid off the track, dropping from eighth to twelfth, behind Massa, Heidfeld, Salo and Panis. “First of all, I’m pleased that the team managed to score two more points today. As for me, I made a good start but then lost a few positions in the first sector, and was eighth at the end of the first lap,” Trulli explained. “Even so, the car was working well when I began to feel a misfire on lap 3. That made me a little nervous and I then locked up going into the first corner soon after and went off-track. Although the problems continued throughout the race, the car felt pretty strong nevertheless. In the end, it was my mistake which cost us points today.” |

4 pts | Spin in Friday Practice. Trulli was a number of drivers to spin in Friday Practice. He spun off and made a light impact against the tyre barrier, losing a lot of time while his car was repaired in the Renault garage. He finished the day in a disappointing nineteenth position, at his team’s home Grand Prix. “I’m very disappointed after today’s sessions,” Trulli said. “We concentrated on improving car balance during the morning. The spin was simply my mistake. I am confident things will improve for tomorrow.” |

3 pts | Baulking Ralf. Like his teammate, Jenson Button, Jarno Trulli was struggling with his Renault all race, falling backwards through the field. He was so busy going slowly that he did not notice Ralf Schumacher trying to lap him. Trulli held Ralf up, balking him significantly. Ralf was not best pleased either, giving Trulli a cheery wave. Trulli’s actions did not go unnoticed and he was brought into the pits for a driver-through penalty for ignoring the waved blue flags. |

4 pts | “Wave” to Firman on lap 19 On lap nineteen Renault’s Jarno Trulli was stuck behind rookie Ralf Firman. Firman and Trulli were in a legitimate fight for position so Trulli looked a bit of a fool when he waved at Firman as the exited turn two. (It was as if Trulli though Firman was a backmarker.) To add insult to injury, Trulli was stuck behind Firman until the Jordan pitted on lap twenty-two. |

1 pts | Spin on lap 50 On lap fifty Renault’s Jarno Trulli was pressuring Jenson button for fifth place. It had been a great comeback drive from the Italian after his first-lap shunt with Michael Schumacher and slow planned pitstop. In his efforts to pass the slow BAR, (which was suffering form wild oversteer) Trulli was too late on the brakes coming into the final turn of the lap. Although the Italian recovered the loss of time had allowed Michael Schumacher to close in on his heels. |
