Unhappy with the handling of his Jordan all weekend he lost control of his Jordan and slammed into the tyre barriers taking the right hand side off the car.

Capelli, Ivan (Ferrari) Spin off and recover 1 pts Capelli’s race ended on lap sixty-one when a spin in Casino Square damaged one of the Ferrari’s steering arms. Capelli, in desperate need of a points scoring finish soldiered on but on as far as Rascasse. The F192A refused to turn in and Capelli was pitched backwards into the barriers. The car ended up lifted off the ground.

Capelli, Ivan (Ferrari) Crash due to technical failure level 1 1 pts On lap nineteen Capelli’s Ferrari left the track and slammed into the concrete retaining wall on the outside of the fast right-hand bend. Capelli had been dogged by throttle problems. “The car just went straight on. It would not turn in at all!”

He was not helped much when he spun into the gravel on his first run in Saturday qualifying practice. Despite this he was able to improve to sixteenth.

Capelli, Ivan (Leyton House) Dunce 1 pts Capelli was seventh in Friday qualifying due to putting a good lap in at the end of the session on the drying track. He slid down to fifteenth place in Saturday’s session. There had been a misunderstanding over what type of rear anti roll bar should be fitted to his car. The fitted anti roll bar afforded a suspension set-up that was far too soft and by the time the cause had been discovered Capelli had used both his sets of qualifying tyres. He was furious, to say the least.

Capelli, Ivan (Leyton House) Spin out of session / race 4 pts With Williams and Ferrari out of the race Capelli should have been first in line to mop up some points for Leyton house if it had nor been for a puncture on lap twenty-five that caused him to spin. Disappointingly the spin resulted in his retirement from the race.

Capelli, Ivan (Leyton House) Stall on grid 7 pts On lap seven Modena hit Morbidelli from behind. The impact from the Tyrrell pitched Morbidelli’s Minardi into a spin but he continued. Morbidelli was not pleased at all. de Cesaris was approaching the accident in his Jordan and he had to spin his car to avoid being collected in the mêlée. Both Gugelmin and Boutsen slowed right down as they approached the accident and this caught Capelli napping. He jumped on the brakes to bring his Leyton house to a grinding halt only to stall the engine. He was out on the spot too.

Capelli was being frustrated by the power from the Tyrrells Honda V12 and in his hurry to pass Stefan he selected neutral instead of third gear. The shock caused him to loose control of his Leyton house and spin out of the race on lap seventeen.

Capelli, Ivan (Leyton House) Crash due to driver error level 1 1 pts In the drag down to Tosa on the first lap Mansell pulled out all the stops to get past his team-mate Alain Prost. His approached lacked finesse and he got a wheel on to the grass, kicking up a huge dust cloud. Nakajima and Capelli were unsighted in the dust cloud the Tyrrell and the Leyton House became entangled. Both were eliminated from the race, with out the completion of one lap.

Capelli, Ivan (Leyton House) Dunce 1 pts Capelli strained his wrist in Friday’s free practice session. He was wrestling with excessive under-steer form his Leyton House and he rode up on the high kerbs. This jarred the front wheel and that nearly ripped the steering wheel out of his hands.

He had a sever pain in his right leg and was unable to continue. “I think it may have been my sciatic nerve. As the car got lighter through the race it started jumping around much more and that’s when the trouble with my leg started. Obviously it was just impossible to drive any longer so I just quit.”
