On lap five, in his first grand prix Barbazza lost control of his M193 and spun in front of Derek Warwick. Warwick had to break hard and was hit from behind by Andretti who was eliminated. Barbazza continued his Minardi undamaged!

After a spin on lap five, from which he continued he made it as far as lap twenty-two before he spun again. This time his Minardi slid into the gravel trap and he was out of the race. This was not the performance he had hoped for in his first Grand prix.

On the very first lap Brundle spun his Ligier all on his own. He would have been able to continue if Barbazza had not ploughed into the strickened Ligier in his Minardi. Both cars were badly damaged and both drivers out of the race before completion of one lap.
