Kovalainen received a sliced rear tyre which forced him back to the pits to get new tyres. A slow get away from a relatively high qualifying position meant that Ricciardo was struggling to regain lost ground.

His collision with Kovalainen put pay to again gain. Whilst he did not put for a new nose until lap 7, he was to finish 2nd from last.
