Chiesa has also had an altercation with Gugelmin the resulting damage to both cars spelt early retirement from the race for them both. In the melee Grouillard had the nose box taken off his Tyrrell and he needed to pit.

Gachot, Bertrand (Larrousse) Crash due to driver error level 1 1 pts A thirty-second pit stop due to a sticking wheel nut had put Gachot down the order. He was carving his way back through the field when he came up to his Venturi team mate, Katayama on lap forty. There was a misunderstanding between the two drivers coming into the Casio chicane tat resulted in heavy contact between the two cars. Gachot was out of the race and Katayama was sent scuttling into the pits. . Katayama was sent back out even though his gearbox was now leaking over the track: he eventually finished a distant eleventh.

Gachot, Bertrand (Jordan) Crash due to driver error level 1 1 pts Gachot had reversed into the qualifying session when it was discovered that in pre-qualifying Nicola Larini’s Lambo has a rear wing that was outside the allowed dimensions. In Friday’s qualifying Gachot blotted his copybook when he ran wide on the entrance to Peratla, got onto the dust and the loss of grip caused the Jordan to spin heavily into the barrier. The session was immediately red flagged. Although the monocoque was undamaged the car needed a new rear suspension, front right-hand corner, rear wing support, front wings, diffuser and rear bodywork.

 
Gachot, Bertrand (Jordan) Crash due to driver error level 1 1 pts Piquet’s retirement form the race due to a rear wheel bearing failure had promoted Gachot’s Jordan into the final points scoring position. Unfortunately for him and Jordan he lost control of the Jordan in Peralta. This was attributed to him accidentally finding neutral instead of fifth gear. The resulting spin left the Jordan stuck in the gravel, it’s race run after completing fifty-one of the race’s sixty-seven laps.

In the first corner his Jordan suddenly snapped away from him and he slid of the track. “I thought I might have been touched by somebody else but there was no mark on my car, so I am not really sure what caused it.”

Gachot, Bertrand (Jordan) Dunce 1 pts Gachot’s whole season with Jordan had been driven with storm clouds looming overhead. Even before he has tested the J191 he has been involved in accident with a taxi driver. Gachot had been driving to see Eddie Jordan in an Alfa Romeo owned by his fiancee. He had a slight collision with a taxi and in the ensuing altercation he sprayed CS gas at the taxi driver. He was charged with the assault as well as possession of a prohibited weapon. At the hearing on the Tuesday before the Grand prix he was found guilty by a ten to two majority and he was given a custodial sentence and ordered to pay £5000 compensation as well as costs by Judge Gerald Butler. This freed up his Jordan seat for one Michael Schumacher.

Gachot, Bertrand (Coloni) Spin out of session / race 4 pts Gachot failed to qualify his Coloni for the 1990 Italian grand prix. A shortage of engine meant he had to sit out Friday’s session and when he slid wide at the Parabolica he had to take the T-car. He was just not able to build up enough speed.
