The car snapped away from him and torpedoed into the concrete barrier on the outside of the track, then it spun back on to the track. The front end was torn off the Simtek and the accident looked sizable. Collectively Formula one held it’s breath but Montermini escaped with superficial injuries. This accident was another serious blow for Nick Writh’s tiny Simtek team after the death of Ratzenberger even though his driver had escaped with a cracked heals and gash to the head.
