Suzuki, Aguri (Ligier) Crash due to driver error level 1 1 pts Suzuki took Mika Salo out of the race with twenty-four laps left to run. Salo was trying to lap Suzuki. Salo lost fifth place and was fit to be tied. “I was on the radio telling them that they should get some blue flags out or he was going to take me off.” Suzuki would retire a lap later due to the damage that his Ligier sustained in the incident.

The second was so dramatic that the Japanese driver needed to have a hospital check up to determine the reason for his double vision. He was to be fit for the Saturday qualifying session.

Suzuki, Aguri (Ligier) Crash due to driver error level 1 1 pts In final qualifying Suzuki had a massive accident that resulted in him being unable to start the race. Whilst on the part of the track that is known as “The Snake” Suzuki put his right front wheel onto the grass. He immediately lost control of his Ligier and the car pirouetted into the tyre barriers at a frightening speed. The session was red flagged as Professor Sid Watkins went to the seen to inspect his Suzuki’s injuries. Suzuki was taken to hospital by helicopter were he was diagnosed as having a cracked vertebra and bleeding of the lungs. Suzuki was unable to race, as he was not fit.

Lehto’s Sauber, the Jordans of Apicella and Barrichello and the Footworks of Suzuki and Warwick. Hirotoshi Honda the boss of Mugen was at the first corner and was not pleased to see both his cars eliminated on the first lap of the race. The accident was probably triggered by Apicella losing control of his Jordan in his first race and avoiding action from one of the other drivers triggering the rest of the action.

Alesi dived up the inside of the Larrousse and Suzuki turned in. Both drivers were eliminated on the spot. There was some justice for Alesi as FISA laid the blame squarely on Suzuki’s shoulders, giving his a $10,000 fine for “dangerous driving.”

Under braking for the uphill right hand corner he lurched in front of Tarquini. The AGS and the Larrousse were literally a tiny number of centimetres way from a big accident.

His Larrousse Lola snapped away from him as he exited the fast chicane after the pits. He slammed head on into the barriers on the left-hand side of the track. Suzuki climbed out of the car only to collapse with concussion and shock. The team had only one car left and sponsorship commitments meant that Gachot had priority on the car for the balance of the weekend. Amazingly Suzuki’s car was repaired for Saturday courtesy of some donated parts from Tyrrell and Ligier. Suzuki made an appearance on Saturday but the rain prevented him from posting a time that would result in qualifying.

The out of control Benetton collected Mansell’s’ Ferrari and pitched it in to the wall. Behind this Suzuki rammed his Larrousse into Piquet’s Benetton putting himself out of the race. Although the race was stopped again his Larrousse was too badly damaged to be repaired in time for the third re-start.

He made a huge error approaching the Varante Goodyear that saw him fly over the kerbs and into the gravel. He leapt out of the car and ran back to the pits to take the T-car.

Caffi’s Arrows speared into the armaco barrier. The Italian driver was stuck in the car, his feet trapped. With the Footwork in such a dangerous position the race organisers had little option but to red flag the race after sixty-one laps. Caffi sustained mild ankle injuries but all agreed Lady Luck had been watching over him.
