In Spain, Redbull noticed that Ferrari brought in Alonso just after Webber was brought in for new tyres. Redbull Team Principal, Horner, remarked on this and explained that they varied their pitstops and even threw a dummy stop to throw Ferrari off the scent.
It became clear in Spain that in order to beat someone on stops in 2011, you need to come in first rather than second so ultimately it was a poor tactical plan from Ferrari.
Looking toward the Monaco GP, “That is why we have changed our procedures this weekend,” he said. “I don’t know if mechanics were putting their hands in their pockets at the wrong time, or it was someone picking a tyre up.
