FIA runs night test

Spurred on by the idea of making F1 cars yet harder to see in the dark the FIA has conducted a night test at the Indy circuit. The flood lit race track was tested to see if cars are still visible to the cameras when running at night. F1Rogues insider revealed that despite “The boy” Massa wanting to try out his new special toy no F1 cars were present on the track. The lime light was left to the Safety and Medical cars.

If this really becomes the case Ralf Schumacher better watch out. The Indy circuit and an inability to see seem to be a most dangerous combination in the daylight, net alone at night…

McLaren escape punishment

McLaren has been cleared following an investigation into alleged team orders used by the team during the Monaco Grand Prix.

The FIA concluded: “It is standard procedure for a team to tell its drivers to slow down when they have a substantial lead,” agreed the FIA. “This is in order to minimise the risk of technical or other problems. It is also standard practice and entirely reasonable to ask the drivers not to put each other at risk.

“McLaren were able to pursue an optimum team strategy because they had a substantial advantage over all other cars. They did nothing which could be described as interfering with the race result.”

If Ferrari or any other team had been closer, then maybe this might have been a different matter. Ultimately McLaren was so far ahead that risking both drivers and potential loss of the race was not a good idea from a team point of view.

All of this means the leads of Alonso and Hamilton at the top of the driver table continue and we can await a maiden win for Hamilton.

McLaren under investigation

After McLaren's Ron Dennis claimed to have predetermined the outcome of the Monaco Grand Prix, the FIA is launching an investigation to see if McLaren has broken the International Sporting Code which clearly states that team orders "which influence the outcome of a race, are forbidden".

If found guilty of a breach then McLaren could suffer punishment.

Just when we thought the Monaco Grand Prix was dull...
